LAURA KASTIN
I fell in love with ceramics in college. After graduation, I worked as a potter, part time, for many years while I taught art, special education, and remedial instruction in public and private schools. During this period, I participated in numer-ous shows, fairs and competitions such as the Northeast Ceramic Sculpture Exhibition 2014, and the Clay Studio National 2018. I’ve been a ceramic instructor at Clayworks on Columbia in Brooklyn, where I’ve been a member, almost since its inception 25 years ago. I continue to exhibit and sell my work there.
Although I focused mainly on functional ceramics earlier in my career, I started creating sculpture and sculptural vessels after retirement, when I could spend more time in my studio. Recently, when social distancing became necessary, I’ve returned to experiments in collage and mixed media.
